Hear from our students, alumni, and researchers as they share their experiences, challenges, and achievements throughout their journey in the MEE program at VGU.
One of our alumni studied our antenna module at VGU some years ago. He has recently been hired by the head of our MEE program as a PhD researcher. He wants to share his view about the RF field:
“I am an alumni of VGU, who studied RF Engineering and Special Topic (antenna-related) modules almost six years ago. After finishing my Undergraduate’s at VGU and Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, I started the Master’s Degree in Telecomunication with application focusing on antenna.
Time flies. After 3 years of dedicated study and internship, I finally completed and achieved that.
However, the next milestone of my life, entering the labour force, was totally challenging. I initially focused my job search in the Embedded System Field. I applied relentlessly for an uncountable amount of working positions, but with zero success. The Embedded System Field is currently overly saturated. The vacancies for freshers is simply too competitive because of several factors. The rapid growth of generative AI and AI agent can reduce effectively repetitive tasks and the seniors can now handle more tasks, which are initially done by the juniors. Especially in Germany, the traditional car sector is stagnated and senior lay-off engineers also take over the chances from the juniors. The situation for Vietnam is slightly better, but the limited opening positions for the junior also suggests an implication that entering the Embedded System Field is relatively impossible at the moment. After several months of applying for jobs and realizing the situation in Germany, I decided to go back to Vietnam.
I initially asked my former lecturer at VGU for a recommendation letter for an AI PhD position based in Vietnam; but, to my surprise, he directed me to another PhD opportunity in the field of RF/microwave based in University of Stuttgart. Prof. Hesselbarth from Stuttgart and I had video and then a face-to-face interviews and immediately reached a mutual agreement for pursuing the PhD program at Stuttgart University. That is absolute cinematic – a rollercoaster of emotion for me. Here we go! I finally stepped into the RF/microwave field. And I will not need to spend days and nights applying as an embedded system developer anymore.”
